9 Gonzaga built a lead. Derek Raivio was the one who helped the
Bulldogs keep it.
Morrison scored 25 points and Raivio added 13 of his 16 points
in the final 5:15 as Gonzaga posted a 68-60 triumph over St.
Mary's in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams.A National Player of the Year candidate and the country's
leading scorer, Morrison scored 17 points in the first half as
the Bulldogs (11-3) jumped to a 36-25 lead at the break.Gonzaga's advantage was 40-28 with 17:27 left in the game, but
the Gaels, who defeated the Bulldogs here last season, reeled
off the game's next 10 points. John Winston, who scored five of
his 11 points during the surge, capped it with a 3-pointer with
12:03 to go.It remained a two-point game when Raivio hit a pair of free
throws at the 5:15 mark and buried a 3-pointer less than a
minute later.St. Mary's (8-5) closed within 60-55 with just over a minute
left but Raivio, who was 8-of-8 from the line, made six free
throws in the final 55 seconds to seal the win.Daniel Kickert scored 18 for the Gaels, who have lost 21 of the
