EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Steve Novak scored 25 points to lead Marquette to a 67-63 win over Seton Hall Wednesday night.

Novak, co-Big East Player of the Week, shot 7-of-13 from the field, including 6-of-10 from 3-point range, and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

Dominic James had 13 points for the Golden Eagles (12-4, 2-1 Big East).

Jamar Nutter had a career-best 19 points to lead Seton Hall (9-5, 1-2). Kelly Whitney had 14 points and nine rebounds and Donald Copeland added 12 points for the Pirates, who lost their second straight.

Novak gave Marquette the lead for good at 62-60 with a 3-pointer with 4:02 remaining. Seton Hall missed a chance to tie when Whitney made only 1-of-2 free throws.

A basket by Ousmane Barro gave Marquette some breathing room and a 64-61 lead with 1:09 remaining. After James made 1-of-2 free throws, Copeland hit a jumper just inside the 3-point line that cut the Golden Eagles' lead to 65-63 with 19 seconds remaining. The officials checked a video replay of the shot and determined it was a 2-pointer.

Joe Chapman hit two free throws for Marquette with 18 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.
