BOSTON (AP) -- Aaron Davis had 21 points and nine rebounds and
Jose Juan Barea added 13 points and seven assists to lead
Northeastern to a 63-60 win over Drexel on Saturday.
The Huskies trailed 60-58 when Barea assisted on Shawn James'
3-pointer with 31.1 seconds remaining to give the Huskies the lead
for good.Davis then rebounded Kenell Sanchez's miss and made two free
throws for the final score. Bashir Mason missed a 3-pointer at the
buzzer for Drexel, which lost its third straight.Bennet Davis had 12 points for Northeastern (9-6, 5-2 Colonial)
and Barea finished the game just one point shy of becoming the
third player in Huskies history with 2,000 career points. Reggie
Lewis, whose four-year career ended in 1987, is the school's career
scoring leader with 2,709 points, while Pete Harris had 2,167 in a
career that ended in 1981.Dominick Mejia had 21 to lead Drexel.The Huskies went on a 10-2 run midway through the second half to
turn a two-point deficit into a six-point lead. Mejia scored 14 in
the second half to keep the game close.Drexel (9-8, 3-3) took a 20-18 lead on Sanchez's jumper with
2:18 remaining in the first half, but the Huskies closed the first
half on a 6-0 run, including Barea's 3-pointer at the buzzer to
make it 24-20 at halftime.Sanchez had nine points and Mason added eight points and eight
assists for the Dragons.
