RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- George Mason erased a 17-point deficit by
outscoring Virginia Commonwealth 41-12 over the final 15:24
Thursday night and solidified its lead in the Colonial Athletic
Association with a 73-61 victory against the Rams.
Will Thomas, Jai Lewis, Tony Skinn and Folarin Campbell combined
for 37 of the points as the Patriots (18-5, 12-2) handed the Rams
their first home loss. The victory was the fifth in a row and 11th
in 12 games for George Mason.
The Rams (15-7, 9-5) led 49-32 following B.A. Walker's jumper
with 15:24 remaining, but the Patriots ran off the next 13 points
and VCU missed 16 of its last 18 shots.
Nick George broke the Rams' field goal drought with 8:09
remaining, giving VCU a 52-49 lead, but the Patriots took the lead
53-52 on Thomas' layup with 6:32 left.
They never trailed again, shooting nearly 74 percent in the
Lewis led the Patriots with 21 points, Campbell added 18, Thomas
14 and Skinn 13.
George led the Rams with 21, Alexander Harper added 11 and
Walker had 10.
