NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Tony Murphy scored 20 of his 26 points in
the second half and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds as Norfolk
State beat Bethune-Cookman 80-66 Wednesday night.
Murphy shot 5-of-7 from 3-point range to tie his career high in
Norfolk State (11-17, 10-8 Mid Eastern Athletic Conference)
stretched a 38-32 halftime lead to 21 points after starting the
second half with an 18-3 run that included eight from Murphy.
Bethune-Cookman (15-13, 11-6) could get no closer than 14 the rest
of the way.
The Spartans jumped out to an eight-point lead, but Antonio Webb
answered with eight straight points and Sam Barber tied it at 15
apiece with a layup with 14:03 left in the first half. Norfolk
State led by as many as 11 in the first half.
Webb led Bethune-Cookman with 13 points and Michael Williams II
had 10. Neither scored in the second half.
