PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Marcus Stout scored 13 points during a 16-0
run early in the second half as Fordham stunned Temple 69-52 and
won in Philadelphia for the first time since joining the Atlantic
10 Conference a decade ago.
Fordham had lost 34 straight games in the city and hadn't won at
Temple since the 1969-70 season. But the Rams scored the first nine
points of the game, never trailed and embarrassed the host Owls.
Temple used a 13-1 run to tie the game 31-31 with 17:22 left
before Stout stroked a 3-pointer from the left corner. He followed
with a steal and layup, and Fordham was never threatened the rest
of the way.
Stout led all scorers with 19 points, while Bryant Dunston added
Mark Tyndale led Temple with 10 points, but shot just 4-for-13
from the floor. Seniors Mardy Collins and Antywane Robinson were
held to just nine points, while Dion Dacons scored seven points and
grabbed 11 rebounds.
Fordham (14-15, 9-7) set a school record for most A-10 wins and
wrapped up the sixth seed in the conference tournament, which
begins Wednesday in Cincinnati. The Rams will play 11th
Temple (15-13, 8-8) lost for the third straight time and will be
the ninth seed. The Owls will play No. 8 Rhode Island on Wednesday.
