HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Joe Zeglinski scored 18 points and had six rebounds to lead Hartford to a 64-49 victory over Long Island University Thursday night.
Hartford quickly took command of the game early in the second half going on a 20-3 run. Brian Glowiak capped the run with a 3-pointer, giving Hartford a 46-26 lead with a little more than 11 minutes left.
James Williams led Long Island (2-4) with 21 points and eight rebounds.
The first half was much closer. Hartford went on an 8-0 run early in the first half, capped by a Zeglinski basket with 14:09 left giving the Hawks a 13-3 lead. Long Island managed to come back and took its first lead of the game on an Esa Maki-Tulokas basket and free throw for the three-point play making the score 19-18 with 6:05 left.
But Hartford countered with a 10-4 run late in the half, with Jaret Von Rosenberg making a basket off his own rebound with 20 seconds left, giving the Hawks a 28-23 lead at the break.
