ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) -- Karron Clarke led DePaul with 15 points and the Blue Demons beat Chicago State 83-56 Wednesday night to post consecutive wins for the first time this season.
Junior David Holston led the Cougars (3-6) with 12 points. The diminutive guard was the only Chicago State player to reach double-figures.
DePaul opened the second half with a 21-13 run to grab a 59-39 lead on Wesley Green's fadeaway jumper. The lead peaked at 30 points in the closing minutes.
With Clarke scoring nine points on 4-for-4 shooting from the field, including a fastbreak alley-oop, DePaul took a 36-26 advantage at the half. Chicago State kept pace with the Blue Demons for the first 10 minutes of the game before DePaul went on a 14-4 run to open up a 30-19 lead.
DePaul held the Cougars to 31 percent shooting in the first half, using a decided height advantage to block seven shots and win the rebound battle 24-14.
Chicago State, which has lost three straight, never has beaten DePaul -- losing all eight contests in the series.
The win, coupled with last weekend's upset of then-No. 5 Kansas, puts the Blue Demons in position to have a winning record for the first time this year if they win Saturday at Alabama-Birmingham.
