Stony Brook 65, N.J. Tech 61

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Ricky Lucas scored 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Stony Brook to a 65-61 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology Monday night.

Andre Vanterpool added 15 points, Mitchell Beauford 13 and Mike Popoko 10 as Stony Brook improved to 4-5.

Clayton Barker had a game-high 19 points for NJIT (2-8), which lost its eighth straight. Kraig Peters added 17 points for NJIT, while Nesho Milosevic had 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

After a jumper by Peters tied the score at 50-50 with 5:32 to go, Stony Brook went on a decisive 8-0 run. Vanterpool drained four straight free throws to start the run. Popoko hit a layup to make it 56-50 with 3:37 to play, and Bauford capped the run with a layup at 2:59.

NJIT's Milosevic scored on a dunk to cut the deficit to 61-58 with 40 seconds remaining, but Stony Brook converted four free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.
