CINCINNATI (AP) -- Adrian Hill scored 13 points Sunday, including a dunk during a 16-2 run that swept Rutgers to a 54-42 victory over poor-shooting Cincinnati.

Jaron Griffin and Marquis Webb also scored 13 apiece for Rutgers (8-7, 1-1 Big East) which pulled away in the second half of a matchup of two of the conference's worst-shooting teams.

Cincinnati (9-6, 0-1) lost its third in a row, all by double-digits. The Bearcats were coming off a 13-point loss to Ohio and a 33-point loss at Memphis, their most lopsided defeat in 19 seasons.

The 42 points were their fewest since a 40-30 victory over Alabama-Birmingham on Jan. 23, 1993. It was their first league-opening loss since the 1993-94 season, when they lost their first Great Midwest Conference game against UAB.

Marcus Sikes scored 17 points for Cincinnati, which shot 34.7 percent from the field and had 14 turnovers.

Heading into the game, Rutgers ranked last in the conference in scoring at 62.4 points per game. Cincinnati was only slightly better, at 66.6. The teams' shooting percentages were the two worst in the league.

This one didn't help matters much. Neither team could make baskets with any consistency in the first half, which ended with Rutgers up 21-20.

With 7 minutes left in the first half, the teams had combined for 10 turnovers and only nine baskets. Cincinnati had only four field goals in the final 15 minutes of the half, and neither team reached the 20-point mark until the final minute.

J.R. Inman, the Scarlet Knights' leading scorer, missed his first eight shots before helping Rutgers take control. He made a reverse layup and hit a 3-pointer during the 16-2 run that made it 40-25 midway through the second half.

Inman finished 3-of-11 from the field for eight points.

Cincinnati managed only two baskets in the first 11 minutes of the second half, going 2-for-12 from the field while Rutgers pulled away. Freshman guard Deonta Vaughn, the Bearcats' second-leading scorer at 14.1 per game, was held to two points on 1-of-10 shooting, his fourth straight game with single-digit scoring.
