LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Nick Young had 19 points and six rebounds, four of his teammates scored in double figures, and Southern California blew open a close game early in the second half to beat Oregon State 73-56 on Thursday night.
A 3-pointer by freshman Dwight Lewis with 17:41 remaining triggered an 11-0 run that gave the Trojans a 40-29 lead, and USC steadily pulled away after that, leading by as many as 24 points. Oregon State had used a 14-1 run to tie the game at 29.
By beating the Beavers for the fifth straight time, USC moved into a second-place tie with No. 18 Washington State and No. 9 Oregon in the Pac-10.
The Trojans (17-6, 7-3 Pac-10) entertain Oregon on Saturday before playing five of their last seven regular-season games on the road. The Trojans handed the Ducks their first loss of the season last month, winning an 84-82 decision in Eugene.
The Trojans beat the Beavers 91-46 in Corvallis last month -- the most lopsided game in the 82-year history of a series USC leads 62-55.
It was a different story this time -- especially for the first 22 minutes -- but USC still managed to win for the 11th time in its last 12 games against Oregon State in Los Angeles.
The Trojans moved into the Top 25 last week for the first time in nearly five years after victories over Arizona and Arizona State, but dropped out after losing at No. 23 Stanford 65-50 and winning at California 76-73.
The game got off to a ragged start, with both teams missing several open shots.
The Trojans didn't have a field goal until Young's three-point play with 14:17 left before halftime triggered a 9-0 run that put them ahead 12-5.
Young outscored the Beavers 7-2 by himself to give him 14 points and the Trojans a 19-10 lead with 6:43 left in the half. Young wouldn't score again until making a 3-pointer with 9:05 left in the game to make it 57-37.
The Trojans led by 13 points before the Beavers outscored them 8-1 to finish the first half and 6-0 to start the second.
That's when USC took command.
Oregon State shot 10-of-24 to USC's 7-of-21 in the first half, but the Trojans went 14-of-17 from the foul line including 8-of-9 by Young while the Beavers were a woeful 2-of-9.
Oregon State wound up shooting 24-of-58 (41.4 percent) and 5-of-16 from the foul line. USC shot 19-of-32 in the second half and 26-of-53 overall (49.1 percent).
