CHENEY, Wash. (AP) -- Marcus Hinton scored a career-high 24 points and sank a 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds left to lift Eastern Washington to an 82-79 victory over Idaho State on Thursday night.
Rodney Stuckey added 23 points and 10 assists for the Eagles (14-14, 7-8 Big Sky).Akbar Abdul-Ahad led the Bengals (12-14, 7-6) with 22 points, including a basket with 29.4 seconds left that pulled the Bengals within 79-77.After Eastern Washington missed the front end of a 1-and-1, Matt Stucki sank a short jumper to tie the score at 79 with 12.5 seconds left. Stuckey then drove the lane and passed off to Hinton in the corner for the winning 3-pointer.Hinton came off the bench to make his first eight shots and finished 9 of 11 from the floor.Paul Butorac added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles. Austin Kilpatrick and Logan Kinghorn each added 14 points and, David Schroeder 12 for the Bengals.Eastern Washington got off to a fast start, with all five starters scoring during a 15-7 burst in the first five minutes. Idaho State rallied behind Kilpatrick, who scored eight straight points, including a 3-pointer that gave the Bengals a 20-17 lead.Idaho State pushed its lead to 33-26 with 5:05 left in the first half on Kinghorn's basket before the Eagles rallied, getting 12 straight points from Hinton to climb to within 43-41 at halftime.Neither team led by more than six the rest of the way.Stuckey, a sophomore, became the fourth player in Eastern Washington history to eclipse 1,400 career points.
