Portland St. 75, IUPUI 73

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) -- Jeremiah Dominguez scored on a reverse layup with five seconds left, than stole an inbound pass to help Portland State nip IUPUI 75-73 on Friday in the opening round of the BP Top of the World Classic.

IUPUI (1-2) led most of the game but the Vikings scored the last eight points to steal the victory.

Portland State (1-1) forced five turnovers at the start of the game and took a 10-0 lead.

A jumper by Gary Patterson with 6:17 remaining gave IUPUI its first lead, 20-18, with 6:17 remaining and the Jaguars led at halftime 34-25.

The Vikings chipped away at the lead and a dunk by Deonte Huff tied the score 61-61 with 6:10 remaining.

IUPUI led 73-67 with 1:19 remaining when Dominguez hit a 3-pointer. Huff hit another from the baseline with 45 seconds remaining to tie the score at 73.

With 29 seconds left, IUPUI's Billy Pettiford drove the lane but was whistled for charging, giving Portland possession of the ball and setting the stage for Dominguez' final shot.

Tyrell Mara led the Vikings with 18 points and shot 7-for-8 from the floor. Dominguez had 15 points, three steals and four assists. Portland shot 73 percent, including 8 of 12 from 3-point range, in the second half.

John Avery led IUPUI with 22 points and Austin Montgomery contributed 17.
