FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) -- Gary Patterson scored 18 points and George Hill added 17 as IUPUI defeated South Carolina-Upstate 80-54 on Saturday in the consolation round of the BP Top of the World Classic Saturday.
IUPUI (2-2) scored the game's first eight points and was never seriously challenged. The first-half lead stretched to 21 points with 2:46 remaining and the Jaguars led 47-28 at the half.
In the second period, South Carolina-Upstate (0-3) closed the gap to 16, 63-47, with 10:13 remaining but could get no closer. IUPUI finished the game on a 17-7 run, led by Patterson and Hill.
Patterson shot 7-for-12 from the field and sank his only free throw. Hill was 8-for-14 from the field. John Avery added 15 points and hit all six of his field goal attempts. He also pulled down six rebounds.
Bobby Davis was the only Spartan in double figures. He scored 12, including eight points from the free throw line, and pulled down 10 rebounds.
