ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Domonic Tilford scored 18 of his career-high 26 points in the second half and South Alabama routed Chattanooga 84-67 to finish fourth in the inaugural Anaheim Classic on Sunday.
Tilford surpassed his career best in scoring for the second consecutive game. The senior guard had 19 points Friday night against San Diego.Demetric Bennett added 21 points, Daon Merritt had 14 and DeAndre Coleman grabbed nine rebounds for the Jaguars (4-2), whose 84 points were a season high. They won for the third time in four games.Nicchaeus Doaks had 19 points and six rebounds for the Mocs (2-3), who have lost three of four. Stephen McDowell added 14 points.South Alabama made seven of its first 10 shots to build a 21-6 lead. Bennett scored seven and Merritt added six as Chattanooga committed five turnovers in the first five minutes.The Mocs narrowed their deficit to 41-33, but the Jaguars ended the half with an 8-0 run to take a 49-33 lead.South Alabama shot 65 percent in the first half, compared to Chattanooga's 39 percent, and scored 20 of its points in the half off 11 turnovers.The Jaguars led by 30 points in the second half, although they went 5:54 without a basket.
