CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- Carlos Taylor's basket with 3.9 seconds left gave Montana State a 60-59 win over Oregon State on Sunday.
The Bobcats (8-5) got a chance to win in their final possession after forcing Oregon State into a shot-clock violation with 20 seconds left. Taylor got the ball near the top of the key, dribbled once and floated a shot over two defenders.Following a time-out, Oregon State's Rickey Claitt drove toward the basket and missed a 14-footer at the buzzer.Divaldo Mbunga led the Bobcats with 23 points and six rebounds, and Bobby Howard added 15 points. Taylor had 11 points.C.J. Giles and Marcel Jones led Oregon State (6-6) with 13 points apiece. It was a season-high for Giles, a 6-foot-11 junior transfer from Kansas playing his fifth game for the Beavers after sitting out the first seven because of NCAA transfer rules.The Beavers had used a 15-0 run to take a 33-27 lead late in the first half, but the Bobcats scored the last six points of the half to even the score.Oregon State started the second half with seven straight points -- the first five by Josh Tarver -- to go ahead 40-33. Montana State responded with nine straight, capped by Adrian Zamora's 15-foot jumper with 12:47 left.The game was tight the rest of the way. Oregon State had a one-point lead and the ball with less than a minute left after Taylor committed a turnover. But the Beavers were unable to beat the 35-second shot clock, setting up Taylor's winning basket.
