NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- Twin brothers Nick and Caleb Holmes combined for 29 points and Eric Flato added 12 to lead Yale to an 88-70 win over Portland on Wednesday night.

Yale (4-7) trailed just once, 3-0, and then raced out to a 17-9 lead. Flato had 10 points by halftime including a 3-pointer that gave the senior captain the 1,000th point of his career. Flato is the 21st player to reach the mark at Yale.

Yale built its largest lead, 40-24, in the closing seconds of the first half and had a 40-28 lead at the break. The Pilots (5-9) closed the deficit to 40-31 early in the second half but would get no closer.

Yale hit five 3-pointers in the second half and built as much as a 23-point advantage. Caleb Holmes led the Bulldogs with 15 points and Nick Holmes scored 14 and was 4-for-4 from behind the arc.

Portland got 22 points from Robin Smeulders and 17 from Nik Raivio.
