Mercer 89, North Florida 68

MACON, Ga. (AP) -- Shaddean Aaron scored 29 points and sparked a 14-4 run midway through the second half to lead Mercer to a 89-68 win over North Florida on Thursday night.

The Ospreys (1-14, 0-3 Atlantic Sun Conference) cut the lead to 50-48 on Justin Cecil's jumper with 13:10 remaining in the second half.

But Aaron helped the Bears (7-8, 2-0) claim a 64-52 lead with 7:34 left in the game, hitting 5-of-6 from the free throw line to go along with a slam dunk during the 14-4 spurt. Aaron also had eight rebounds and four blocks.

North Florida made four of its first seven 3-pointers, but missed its next 14 attempts before making two shots from beyond the arc late in the game.

Tom Hammonds led the Ospreys with 14 points and eight rebounds. Chris Timberlake had 12 points and Cortez Riley added 11.

James Florence scored 20 points for Mercer, while Calvin Henry added 11.
