PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Geoff McDermott scored a career-high 24 points and had a game-high seven rebounds to lead Providence to an 86-70 win over South Florida on Saturday.

Jeff Xavier and Dwayne Williams each had 16 for the Friars (11-6, 2-2 Big East), who are unbeaten in eight home games.

Providence hit 13-of-21 3-point attempts, their second highest total this season. Williams matched his career high by making five 3s in eight attempts.

Kentrel Gransberry led the Bulls (10-6, 1-3) with 22 points and added six rebounds. Chris Howard had 16 but Dominque Jones had just 10, six below his team-high average.

The Friars connected on eight 3-pointers to build a 43-31 halftime lead.

Gransberry started the second half with a layup to cut the deficit to 10, but the Friars responded with a 17-8 run over the next seven minutes and the Bulls never got closer than 15 the rest of the way.

Providence led by as many as 23 in the second half after Jonathan Kale hit a layup to make it 86-63 in the final few minutes.
