Winthrop 61, High Point 53

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Michael Jenkins scored 14 points to lead second-seeded Winthrop to a 61-53 win Thursday over High Point in the semifinals of the Big South Conference tournament.

The Eagles have now won 11 straight Big South Conference Tournament games and move on to defend their title against top-seeded North Carolina-Asheville, which defeated fourth-seeded Liberty 75-57 in the second semifinal game Thursday.

Mantoris Robinson and Chris Gaynor each finished with 12 points for Winthrop (21-11). Arizona Reid and Eugene Harris led the Panthers (17-14) with 21 points each.

The Eagles, who have won three straight Big South Conference championships, opened up a 33-18 halftime lead after shooting 56 percent from the field while High Point struggled with just 32 percent shooting from the field in the opening half.

Harris and Reid combined to score 24 points in the second half but weren't able to get the Panthers closer than seven points.
