VESTAL, N.Y. (AP) -- All-Conference guard Joe Zeglinski scored seven of his 16 points during an 11-2 burst over a 3:04 span in the second half, leading second-seeded Hartford to a 59-52 win Sunday over Boston University and its first trip to the America East title game.
The Hawks (18-15) had lost their nine previous semifinal games and will now visit No. 1 seed Maryland-Baltimore County next Saturday. UMBC, reaching its first final in its fifth season in the conference, defeated Vermont in the opening game Sunday.
Hartford and UMBC split a pair of game during the regular season, each winning by a point on their home floor.
Sixth-seeded BU (14-17) cut a 31-25 to 31-29 when Corey Lowe missed two free throws with 14:59 remaining and Zeglinski then hit two straight field goals that triggered the 11-2 run that actually grew to 15-4 and the Hawks were never really in trouble after that. Hartford beat BU for the second time in three games this season.
Zeglinski was 7-for-12 from the field and had three assists and two rebounds. Warren McLendon, who didnt play when these two teams met in Boston, Feb. 28 (coachs decision), had 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Michael Turner added eight points and seven rebounds for the Hawks.
