JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Senior Toney Douglas scored a team-high 16 points as Florida State held off a late charge to beat Jacksonville University 59-57 Saturday in both teams' season opener.

Freshman Chris Singleton added a double-double, with 12 points and 16 rebounds for the Seminoles, who beat the Dolphins for the 15th consecutive time dating back to 1988. Jordan DeMercy contributed 10 points for Florida State (1-0).

Junior forward Lehmon Colbert led Jacksonville (0-1) with 16 points, while forward Marcus Allen added 10 points.

Despite the scoring drought, the Dolphins pulled to within two points when Travis Cohn put back an offensive rebound with three seconds to play.
