Purdue shoots 55 percent in second half, forces 22 turnovers in tourney win
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Eastern Michigan got Purdue's attention, and then it was over.The Eagles jumped to an 8-0 lead on the Boilermakers (No. 10 ESPN/USA Today, No. 11 AP) on Monday night.Sufficiently awakened, Purdue responded with a 26-6 run and never was challenged after that as Robbie Hummel scored 18 points in the Boilermakers' 87-58 victory over Eastern Michigan in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.Purdue called a timeout after Eastern Michigan made its first four shots, and the Boilermakers dominated from there. Reserve Marcus Green scored all six points in a run that turned a 10-7 deficit into a 13-10 lead.
• After falling behind 8-0 early, Purdue finished the first half on a 42-14 run.
• The Boilermakers won their 12th straight home game and improved to 24-1 against non-conference opponents at home under Matt Painter.
• E'Twaun Moore has scored at least 15 points in eight consecutive games.
• Eastern Michigan fell to 9-64 vs. Big Ten opponents all time.
