BATON ROUGE, La. -- Marcus Thornton had a season-high 25 points, outscoring the entire Northwestern State team during the first half, and LSU remained undefeated with a 91-60 victory over the Demons on Sunday.
Bo Spencer scored 10 for LSU, which is now 3-0 under new head coach Trent Johnson. Thornton was 10-of-16 shooting, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range. He scored 20 of his points in the opening 20 minutes to help LSU take a 48-19 lead by halftime.
LSU broke the game open with a 21-0 run that spanned 7:37 of the first half and included Thornton's alley-oop dunk and 3-pointer.
Dwayne Watkins and Devin White each scored eight points to lead Northwestern State (2-2), which shot only 34 percent from the field (21 of 61) and seemed overwhelmed by LSU's defense. The Tigers forced 22 turnovers and blocked 10 shots, with four blocks by Chris Johnson.
