ELON, N.C. -- Brett James scored 28 points, including a crucial 3-pointer in overtime, to lead Elon to a 79-76 win over Lipscomb on Monday night.
With a 75-74 lead during the overtime period, James' 3-pointer pushed the Phoenix (7-2) lead to four with 20 seconds left. The lead was cut down to three with 11 seconds remaining, but Michael Lusk missed his 3-point attempt that would have tied the game.
The Bisons (4-6) were led by Adnan Hodzic, who scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Lusk chipped in with 14 points and five assists.
James grabbed eight rebounds for Elon. Ola Atoyebi scored 15 points on 7 of 8 shooting.
Elon shot 49.2 percent from the field (29-for-59), and finished with 18 team assists.
