Vines hit a 3-pointer with 56 seconds left to give the Pride (19-9) a 54-51 lead and Hofstra shot 7-of-8 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the win. Zygis Sestokas added 12 points.
Despite committing nine of their 17 turnovers in the first half, the Pride led 27-23 at the break.
Fairfield erased the lead with a 10-2 run to open the second half, taking a 33-29 advantage on a dunk from Hawkins at the 17:17 mark.
Hofstra countered with a 9-0 run to take a 38-33 edge, and the teams would trade leads until the final minute.
