BOISE, Idaho -- Lazar Hayward scored Marquette's first and last points.He had plenty of big plays in between, too, scoring 26 to lead the Golden Eagles to a 58-57 win over Utah State in the first round of the West Regional.
• Marquette advanced to the second round for the second straight season, holding off Utah State after owning a 14-point lead.
• Utah State was held to 18 points in the first half before scoring on its first five possessions of the second half.
• Lazar Hayward scored the first 10 points for Marquette, and the Golden Eagles led by eight at the half. Hayward's 26 points are his most since December 19.
• The Aggies have now suffered four straight first round exits. Jared Quayle, Gary Wilkinson and Tai Wesley scored the first 48 of 51 points for Utah State in the loss.
