CINCINNATI -- Jordan Crawford had his first career double-double Saturday, scoring 21 points and making all the big plays during a 10-0 run early in the second half that sent Xavier to a 72-61 victory over Rhode Island.
Xavier (13-6, 5-1 Atlantic 10) hadn't led or made a 3-pointer until Crawford -- the conference's leading scorer -- took the game over during a 1:24 stretch. Crawford had three rebounds, passed to Jason Love for a layup, drove for a layup and hit back-to-back 3s during the run.
Crawford finished with 12 rebounds and six assists. Jamel McLean had 16 points and eight rebounds.
Former Kentucky guard Ed Davender, the only Wildcat with at least 1,500 points and 400 assists, has died. He was 49.
Guard Naz Mitrou-Long, whose 2015-16 season ended in December due to hip problems, has been granted a hardship waiver for the coming season, Iowa State said.
As the Sooners look to life without superstar Buddy Hield and his sidekicks, it's clear their unseasoned players will need to grow up fast.
