MADISON, Wis. -- Jon Leuer scored 24 points and Josh Gasser added 21 as Wisconsin (No. 24 ESPN/USA Today, unranked AP) beat Prairie View 99-55 in the Badgers' season opener Sunday night.

Gasser's 21 points off the bench were the second most by a freshman in his debut in school history.

Trant Simpson led the Panthers (0-2) with 14 points.

Leuer hit 3-pointers on three straight possessions as Wisconsin went up 9-0 with Prairie View missing its first five shots. The Panthers recovered from their dismal start to stay in the game and trailed 43-36 early in the second half.

Wisconsin then went on a 21-3 run over the next five minutes to put the game away. Jordan Taylor scored 10 points in the spurt and finished with 20.
