THIBODAUX, La. -- Fred Hunter scored 27 points and had nine rebounds as Nicholls State overcame a slow start to cruise to an 89-67 win over Jarvis Christian College on Tuesday night.
Anatoly Bose added 25 points for the Colonels (6-4), who are above .500 through 10 games for only the second time in 16 years.
After the 1994-95 Colonels started 8-2, only the 2008-09 squad (6-4) also had a winning record after 10 games.
Jarvis Christian, an NAIA school counting the game as an exhibition, led for most of the first 10 minutes.
Trailing 15-14 edge with 10:18 to go before halftime, Nicholls State used a 23-5 run to take command.
Jarvis Christian, which battled McNeese State to the wire in a 96-91 loss on Dec. 9, could get no closer than 14 points in the second half despite Rashard Norman scoring 17 of his 18 points.
Nicholls State outscored the Bulldogs 54-20 in the paint.
