Pepperdine loses against red-hot Saint Mary's

MALIBU, Calif. -- Matthew Dellavedova scored 17 points and Mickey McConnell added 11 points and a career-high 15 assists to lead Saint Mary's to an 85-60 victory over Pepperdine on Saturday night.

Mitchell Young finished with 16 points and Clint Steindl had 14 for the Gaels (14-2, 2-0 West Coast Conference), who won their eighth straight.

Taylor Darby led the Waves (7-12, 1-1) with 16 points and Lorne Jackson had 15.

Saint Mary's made seven of its first eight 3-pointers and took a 46-27 lead into halftime. The Gaels hit 15 3s in all, shot 49.3 percent and led by as many as 33.

Saint Mary's also committed just five turnovers and scored 18 points off the Waves' 11.

Pepperdine's Keion Bell, the conference's leading scorer at 20.7 points per game, missed his third straight contest with an ankle injury.
