ST. LOUIS -- Cody Ellis scored 13 points and Saint Louis opened with a 14-1 run Friday night en route to a 71-37 season-opening victory over Tennessee State.
The Billikens held Tennessee State to 19 percent shooting in the first half and did not allow a field goal until Patrick Miller's 3-pointer at the 12:41 mark in the first half. Saint Louis stretched its lead to 17-4, forcing nine turnovers in the first 10 minutes.
Robert Covington led Tennessee State with nine points. The Tigers shot 29.8 percent from the field for the game -- their worst shooting performance since hitting 27.6 percent at Colorado on Dec. 19, 2003 -- and committed 22 turnovers. The 37 points were the lowest total for a Tennessee State team since 1970.
