BALTIMORE -- Erik Etherly had a career-high 27 points with 10 rebounds to lead Loyola (Md.) past Maryland-Baltimore County 73-63 on Thursday night, giving Greyhounds coach Jimmy Patsos his 100th career win.
Patsos, who took over a team that was 1-27 in 2002-03, is in his eighth year at the helm of the Loyola program with a 99-115 record. Dylon Cormier added 20 points for the Greyhounds (2-1), making 15 of 17 free throws.
Loyola was 31 of 46 from the foul line, while the Retrievers had only 21 opportunities from the line, making just 10.
Loyola led 35-27 at halftime and padded the lead to 51-34 with 11:08 to go.
UMBC got within seven, at 61-54, with 2:44 left, but could get no closer.
