CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Harouna Mutombo led four Western Carolina players in double figures with 18 points and the Catamounts defeated UNC Greensboro 73-69 on Saturday.
UNC Greensboro led 36-34 at halftime, and opened up the second half with five straight points.
The Spartans then went up 44-43, before Western Carolina outscored them 6-2 to lead 49-46 on Trey Sumler's free throws with 12:12 remaining. The Catamounts wouldn't trail the rest of the way.
Western Carolina, which won their third straight, outrebounded the Spartans 40-37 and outscored them 14-10 on second-chance points.
Aaron Brackett tallied a double-double for UNC Greensboro (2-6, 0-2) with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Drew Parker added 14 points, Korey Van Dussen 13 and Trevis Simpson 12 for the Spartans, who lost their third straight.
