Lynchburg, Va. -- Andre Jones hit two free throws with 3 seconds remaining in overtime to help Winthrop defeat Liberty 64-61on Saturday night.
Jones, who scored 14 points, also hit a layup with 5 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score 54-54 and send it into overtime.
The Eagles never trailed in the extra period. Winthrop led 62-58 after a dunk by Valentine with 31 seconds remaining, then Liberty cut the deficit to 62-61 with 19 seconds to go on a 3-pointer by Jesse Sanders. Jones' free throws iced it 16 seconds later.
The Eagles shot 42.9 percent (25 of 59) from the field.
