BOSTON -- Joel Smith buried a 20-foot jumper with 1.1 seconds left to cap a last-minute rally and give Northeastern a 62-61 win over Delaware Wednesday night.
The Demons (10-10, 6-4 Colonial Athletic Association) trailed 61-56 with 57 seconds left.
Jonathan Lee then made two free throws with 30 seconds and, after a turnover by Khalid Lewis, Kauri Black was fouled after an offensive rebound. He made both free throws to pull the Huskies within one, 61-60, with 13 seconds to go.
Tied at 22 at halftime, Northeastern shot 60.9 percent in the second half (14 of 23) and got 13 of Smith's 20 points and 12 of Lee's 14 in the period.
Devon Saddler scored 24 points to lead the Blue Hens (10-10, 5-5), who outscored Northeastern 44-14 in paint.
There's nothing to suggest the Jayhawks won't end up atop the Big 12 for a 13th season in a row. But what about a return to the Final Four?
Colorado State graduate transfer John Gillon has chosen Syracuse, giving the Orange a potential starter at point guard entering the 2016-17 season.
DeSean Murray, who averaged 20.2 points as a sophomore at Presbyterian, will transfer to Auburn to play for coach Bruce Pearl.
