BOSTON -- Luke Apfeld scored 16 points and Vermont held off a Boston University rally to win 68-67 on Wednesday night and take sole possession of second place in the America East Conference.
Vermont held a 35-19 halftime advantage and led by 19 points, 55-36, with 6:44 remaining before the Terriers rallied. A layup by D.J.Irving pulled the Terriers to within 66-65 with 20 seconds to play. Vermont's Four McGlynn hit a layup 4 seconds later to push the lead to 68-65. The Terriers missed two 3-pointers before Mike Terry Jr. made a layup with 1 second remaining.
Matt Glass added 13 points and McGlynn chipped in 11 for the Catamounts (14-10, 8-2), who have won five straight.
Darryl Partin scored 19 points and Irving added 15 for the Terriers (11-13, 7-3), who had their 15-game home conference winning streak snapped. The Terriers shot 39.7 percent (27 of 68) from the field.
