NORFOLK, Va. -- Tahj Tate had 25 points for Delaware State, including a tip-in to send the game into overtime and five points in the extra frame to lead the Hornets past Norfolk State 73-63 on Wednesday night.
Tyshawn Bell took a potential game-winning 3 for the Hornets (12-11, 9-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) on the team's last possession of regulation, but the shot rimmed out. But Tate grabbed the offensive board, laying it back in off the glass to tie it at 59-all with 1.3 seconds left.
In the extra period, Casey Walker opened with a 3-pointer for the Hornets and they never looked back. In overtime, Tate sank three free throws and slammed home a dunk for the final margin.
Walker finished with 16 points, including hitting four 3-pointers, for Delaware State.
Brandon Wheeless had 17 points to lead the Spartans (18-9, 10-3).
