DURHAM, N.H. -- Kyle Vinales scored 27 points as Central Connecticut's starters scored all but two of its points in an 87-84 nonconference victory over New Hampshire on Wednesday night.
Matt Hunter added 18 points, Joe Efese 15, Adonis Burbage 13 and Malcolm McMillan 12 for the Blue Devils (4-3), whose starters played an average of 36.6 minutes. They were averaging 36.1 for the season.
Vinales' 3-pointer put CCSU ahead to stay, 73-71, with 6:06 remaining. The sophomore guard, who came in averaging 25.7 points per game, had 17 in the second half.
The lead reached six before the Wildcats (3-5) cut it to 82-80 with 36 seconds left on Chandler Rhoads' layup, but CCSU secured the game with five free throws.
There's nothing to suggest the Jayhawks won't end up atop the Big 12 for a 13th season in a row. But what about a return to the Final Four?
Colorado State graduate transfer John Gillon has chosen Syracuse, giving the Orange a potential starter at point guard entering the 2016-17 season.
DeSean Murray, who averaged 20.2 points as a sophomore at Presbyterian, will transfer to Auburn to play for coach Bruce Pearl.
