SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Marc Trasolini scored 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting, leading Santa Clara to a 72-64 victory Monday night over Cal Poly in the schools' first meeting since 2005.
Evan Roquemore added 16 points, including two free throws that gave the Broncos (9-2) the lead for good, 52-50, with 8:32 to play. Raymond Cowels III chipped in 12 points and Kevin Foster had 10 points and seven assists. Santa Clara made the most of Cal Poly's 13 turnovers, scoring 17 points off them.
Cal Poly's 11-0 run, capped by Dylan Royer's layup 2 minutes into the second half, put the Mustangs up 33-31, and Santa Clara stayed close but didn't lead again until Roquemore's free throws, part of a 13-2 Broncos run that put the game away.
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble, considered a lock to leave the program before struggling in the second half last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season.
Louisville's Chinanu Onuaku, who recently underwent a medical procedure to correct a heart rhythm issue detected during the combine, will keep his name in the NBA draft pool.
Andrew White III will return to the Nebraska men's basketball team next season after removing his name from the NBA draft.
