TAMPA, Fla. -- Newcomer Corey Allen Jr. had 19 points and a career-high six steals, leading South Florida to a 72-63 victory against Stetson on Friday night.
Allen, who had only five points and two steals before the intermission, led a late charge by the Bulls after Graham hit from long range to put Stetson ahead 57-56 with 6:27 to go. The junior college transfer put USF ahead with a pair of free throws, then scored off a steal by Collins.
Minutes later, Allen punctuated a six-point run with two more free throws, a pair of steals and a slam dunk to make it 66-61.
Green scored 10 points for the Hatters in a first half that included five ties and seven lead changes. The teams were even at 35 at halftime. By the end, there were nine ties and the lead changed hands 15 times.
Stetson scored the first six points coming out of the break for its biggest lead and was up 50-46 midway through the second half while outscoring USF by 20 points in the paint and outrebounding the Bulls by 10.
Five South Florida players combined to score seven times in 15 attempts (46.7 percent) from behind the arc, from where the Bulls had converted only 29.9 percent (11 of 38) in their first four games.
