SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Dylan Garrity scored 14 points, including a pair of free throws with 8 seconds to play, as Sacramento State held off UC Riverside for a 69-67 win Sunday.
Chris Patton's layup with 6:01 left gave UC Riverside (4-8) its first lead, 61-60, since early in the first half but Sacramento State made 7 of 8 free throws and Garrity scored five points down the stretch to hold off the Highlanders.
The Hornets (4-5) led by as many as 15 points in the first half as UC Riverside made just 8 of 28 shots and Sacramento State went into the break leading 38-28. Despite shooting 52 percent in the second half, the Highlanders made just two field goals in the final 10 minutes of the game.
Sam Finley scored a career-high 20 points in the loss.
