SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Landon Atterberry doubled his usual points per game with a career-high 22 as LIU-Brooklyn defeated Texas State 73-64 Monday night.
The Blackbirds (5-8) flew away from a 61-60 deficit inside the final three minutes, breaking open a tight game with 7-1 run sparked by a Troy Joseph 3-pointer from the right corner at 2:42 remaining. Joseph also added putback to put the game out of reach at 69-64 as he scored all five of his points in the late run.
Jason Brickman scored four straight free throws in the final 29 seconds. Brickman, last season's NCAA assists leader, had 10 assists.
LIU-Brooklyn shot 45 percent (23-51) and scored 20 points on free throws. Texas State was just 12-for-18 at the line.
The Bobcats led by as many as seven in the second half.
