BOONE, N.C. -- Mike Thorne Jr. scored a career-high 26 points to lead Charlotte to a 77-59 victory over Appalachian State on Sunday.
Thorne scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds before the break to give the 49ers (7-2) a 15-point lead (37-22) at halftime. He shot 12 of 18 from the floor (66.7 percent) while the team finished at 50.8 percent.
The Mountaineers scored 37 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough to catch up to Charlotte. Mike Neal scored 17 points and was the only Appalachian State player to finish in double figures. The Mountaineers shot a dismal 16.7 percent from 3-point range after making four shots on 24 attempts.
Both teams combined for a total of 17 steals.
The 49ers had won five straight before losing to Davidson in overtime on Wednesday.
