INDIANAPOLIS -- Marcellus Barksdale scored 17 points and IUPUI held off a late charge by NC Central on Saturday to win 71-65 in the first-ever meeting between the teams.
Barksdale gave the Jaguars a 6-4 lead on a layup at 17:37 and IUPUI led 35-25 at halftime. A 10-3 run boosted IUPUI's lead to 48-35 at 12:53 in the second half, but the Eagles made it a two-point game with a layup by Houston with 1:29 to go. Barksdale, Patton and Chiles each made free throws down the stretch to ensure the IUPUI win.
IUPUI made 26 free throws on 33 attempts. The Eagles were 12 of 16 from the line.
