CS Northridge tops Hope International 86-74

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -- Stephen Maxwell had 23 points and 12 rebounds as Cal State Northridge topped Hope International 86-74 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Cal State Northridge (1-0) led by as many as 19 in the second half but Hope International (0-1) went on a 17-4 run to cut the lead to 66-60 with 6:32 to play. The run was capped by a 3-pointer by from Matt Green, who led Hope International with 21 points and was 5 of 6 on 3-pointers.

Cal State Northridge then made 13-of-14 free throws to seal the game. The Matadors shot 32 of 33 from the free throw line for the game. They also forced 17 Hope International turnovers.

Stephan Hicks added 20 points and nine rebounds for Cal State Northridge.

The win came in Reggie Theus' debut as head coach of the Matadors.
