YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Travis Betran made two free throws to give Austin Peay the lead and Zavion Williams' jump shot with 15 seconds to go secured the Governors' 88-86 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday night.
The lead went back and forth until Kendrick Perry hit a pair of 3-pointers to give the Penguins (6-3) a six-point lead 82-76 with 6 minutes left. The Governors (4-3) passed the Penguins with Betran's free throws with 1:12 remaining. Perry drove and had a layup roll off the rim with 49 seconds left before Williams hit his big basket.
Youngstown State had a final chance but Marcus Keene's 3-point try missed at the buzzer.
Betran finished with 24 points and Williams 20. Chris Horton added 17 points and 10 rebounds. Demarius Smith had 10 assists. The Governors shot 58.3 percent.
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble, considered a lock to leave the program before struggling in the second half last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season.
Louisville's Chinanu Onuaku, who recently underwent a medical procedure to correct a heart rhythm issue detected during the combine, will keep his name in the NBA draft pool.
Andrew White III will return to the Nebraska men's basketball team next season after removing his name from the NBA draft.
