SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Jacob Lancaster scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Abilene Christian cruised by Division II Western New Mexico 62-44 in the San Angelo Community Medical Center Classic on Friday.
Abilene Christian (1-5) opened the contest on a 22-4 run, led by eight points from LaDarrien Williams. Williams matched Lancaster with 16 points and also had five assists and three steals. Parker Wentz added 12 points for Abilene Christian.
The Wildcats maintained a comfortable lead throughout the game despite committing 21 turnovers and making just 5 of 21 3-pointers.
Abilene Christian out-rebounded the Mustangs 42-20, led by Lancaster's nine rebounds and eight from Austin Cooke.
Steven Loucks scored a game-high 18 points for the Mustangs, the only Western New Mexico player to reach double figures.
Abilene Christian earned its first win of the season after moving to the Division I ranks and joining the Southland Conference this year.
