OMAHA, Neb. -- Consensus First Team All-American Doug McDermott scored 20 points, as Creighton opened the season with a 107-61 blowout win over Alcorn State.
McDermott was limited in the second half as he was charged with his fourth personal foul with 13:18 left in the game and never returned.
McDermott scored the Bluejays' opening six points and nine of his team's first 11 as Creighton opened up a 16-7 lead.
But the Braves put together a 16-6 run, sparked by Devontae Hampton's three straight 3-pointers, to give Alcorn State a 23-22 advantage with 9:32 remaining in the first half.
Twann Oakley and Octavius Brown scored 16 each to lead Alcorn State.
Creighton responded with a 16-0 outburst over the next 4:05 to put the Bluejays back in command 38-23 with 5:54 left in the half.
The Jays shot 48.5 percent (16 of 33) from the floor as they took a 52-36 lead into halftime while holding the Braves to 11 of 31 shooting (35.5 percent) and outscoring ASU 20-6 in the paint.
The Bluejays outscored the Braves 25-4 in the first 7:42 of the second half as the Creighton lead bulged to 77-40 on a Zach Hanson jump-hook in the lane.
