JACKSON, Miss. -- Jeremy Crutcher scored 16 points as Alabama A&M used 3-point shooting to post a 68-61 win over Jackson State in the Southwestern Conference opener for both schools Saturday night.
Neither team shot the ball well. Alabama A&M was 18 of 46 from the field; Jackson State 18 of 42. The Bulldogs, however, converted 8 of 23 from behind the arc.
Brandon West scored 19 points and Jeffery Stubbs added another 14 for Jackson State (4-9) in first-year coach Wayne Brent's SWAC debut. Derell Taylor, the lone returning starter from a year ago, added 12 points and Treshawn Bolden contributed 10.
The Tigers leading scorer Julysses Nobles, who averages more than 17 points per game, was 0-for-3 from the field with five turnovers and did not play in the second half.
